Academic Challenge team members (from left): Steve Saed, Elliot Smith and Peter Schleckman.

The Lakewood High Academic Challenge team may not have done as well as it would have liked during the WEWS Channel 5 televised competiton, but it more than made up for it by going undefeated in the West Shore Conference regular season tournament.

The team of seniors Steve Saed, Peter Schleckman and Elliot Smith finished in third on the TV show. Since the taping of that show in January, the team, with the addition of junior Hugh Campbell, has been competing against West Shore Conference teams weekly after school in Avon. The team has gone undefeated with a 7-0 record, including crucial double overtime win against Bay and a triple overtime win against Rocky River in the final regular-season competition last week. The team will compete in a post-season West Shore tournament on March 9.

The rest of the Academic Challenge team alternates are freshmen Amanda Cabot, Alex Grunder and Fox Milenski and sophomores Ben Kinsley and Laert Fejzullari. Team advisers are Mr. Sedlak and Mr. Petto.
