COMMUNITY DISCUSSION OF "OTHER WES MOORE" TONIGHT

Over the summer, LHS students and the community were asked to participate in Lakewood Reads by reading The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates, by Wes Moore. Now, the community will have the opportunity to discuss the book with their fellow Lakewood residents at an event scheduled for Nov. 14.

The Lakewood Community Relations Advisory Commission, in partnership with the Lakewood Family Collaborative and the University of Akron Lakewood is hosting a Community Conversation on the book.  You are invited to join the discussion on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., at the UA Lakewood campus, located at 1415 Warren Rd., on the first floor of the historic Bailey Bldg.

This event is free and open to the public.  Joined by a panel of university educators, youth advocates and public servants, the group will engage in an in-depth conversation about this fascinating story.  The group will examine some of the central themes of the book. You do not have to have read the book to be a part of this engaging evening!

Earlier this week, 50 LHS students are travelled to EJ Thomas Hall in Akron to see the author, Wes Moore, speak at an event sponsored by the University of Akron. The tickets were graciously provided by the University of Akron Lakewood Campus.

Later this week, students will engage in discussions during their 7th period classes centered around packets provided by the Social Studies Department that focus on the themes of the book such as personal choices, role models, peer support, race and other challenges facing our youth today.
