Also on the marching band front, the Ranger Marching Band has been invited to join the Ohio State marching band at its “skull session,” or final rehearsal at St. John Arena before the Oct. 6 football game versus Nebraska. The skull session is a combination rehearsal/pep rally open to the public. Throughout the season, high school marching bands are invited to play for the crowd prior to the OSU band’s rehearsal.
The LHS Wind Ensemble has been selected by the band faculty at the University of Akron to perform as part of the 2012 Ohio Band Directors Conference. The conference is an annual event hosted by Akron for Ohio band directors that features the performance of new music by several guest, honor, and university bands and highlights the work of a featured composer who visits and conducts seminars for the directors and students.
This year's guest composer is Robert Sheldon and he will guest conduct the LHS Wind Ensemble on at least one of his works. The Wind Ensemble will perform Saturday, Dec. 1 in the main ballroom of the Student Union at the University of Akron.
The Wind Ensemble has also been invited to perform with the Cleveland State University Wind Ensemble for a joint concert on Monday, Feb. 25 in the evening at CSU. The Lakewood High School Wind Ensemble is directed/conducted by Brian D. Maskow.
