SUPERINTENDENT OFFERS THOUGHTS ON YEAR, STUDENT HIGHLIGHTS

My first school year as Superintendent has been a gratifying one in many ways. First and foremost, I am proud of the outstanding student achievement that has occurred on many different levels, from academics to arts to sports. I am also proud of our staff and the continued dedication and talent they exhibit day in and day out on behalf of our students.

Some of the more notable achievements from our students include:

  • Three National Merit Finalists
  • Two LHS cello players selected for the National Honors Orchestra
  • A West Shore Career-Tech student awarded a national medal for animation
  •  Harding’s rocket team top 50 finish in the nation in the country’s largest rocket contest
  • The LHS girls’ rugby team placing second in the nation and first in Ohio

Leading the list among our staff’s many accomplishments were Bill Wagner winning Ohio Principal of the Year Award and LHS choral director Lisa Hanson winning the Ohio Music Education Association’s Educator of the Year award.

These are just a few of our many accomplishments, to see more of our students’ and staff’s great work, click here.

Next year, you will find some teachers have moved to another building or a support staff position no longer exists, but our commitment to educating your child to the best of our abilities will not change. The financial plan for the future that the district has put in place will ensure that the programming our community has valued for generations of Lakewood City School children and that the opportunities and learning environment that lead to the type of accomplishments mention above continue to exist.

Finally, a hearty congratulations to our graduating Class of 2012! These young men and women are what our district is all about….educating our young people to graduate and enter the next phase in their lives prepared and eager to succeed. Good luck to all our graduates!

Enjoy a safe and happy summer,

Jeff Patterson
