Every year, close to 500 students apply for the Austrian Fulbright Teaching Assistantship with only 140 spots available, of which half are taking by existing teaching assistants who chose to extend for a second year.
Elaban, who is actively involved in OU’s German Club, has previously studied in Austria for three months and is eager to return.
When asked how her years at LHS prepared her for her success at Ohio University, Elaban said, “Lakewood High School definitely helped me with my success in college by preparing me to be organized and to get involved in programs and groups outside of academics.”
She continues to be active outside academics in Athens as well. Besides the German Club, she is a member of the Anthropology Club and recently was inducted into the college’s Anthropology Honors Fraternity. She is part of the German Film Club, played in the Symphony Orchestra for two years and is heavily involved in the university’s residence department, working as a resident assistant and facilitating programs for the students in the dorms.
