EMERSON 4TH GRADER CAPTURES FIRST AT INVENTION CONVENTION

Emerson 4th grader Claire Martin and her winning Invention Convention display.

Using their imaginations to help solve a problem they encounter in their everyday lives, nine elementary and middle schools students brought their inventions to the annual Invention Convention at the Great Lakes Science Center. Emerson fourth-grader Claire Martin earned first place and $500 in her 4th grade division for her Kids Can Pour system, which helps kids pour full, heavy gallon milk jugs without spilling.

Martin’s KCP system includes replacing the screw cap with a pour spout that prevents “glug.”  The cup can be placed into a koozie-type holder that doesn’t skid on the counter so that you can use two hands to pour and not have to hold the glass with one.

A number of other students won Honorable Mentions and $50 savings bonds. Those students are:

  • Eliza Richardson, Emerson, 5th grade

  • Gabby Murray, Emerson, 5th grade

  • Riley Geyer, Emerson, 5th grade

  • Rachel Owen, Grant, 5th grade

  • Aoife Fox, Harding, 8th grade

  • Alex Figueroa, Harding, 8th grade

Emerson 5th grader Safe Jassani and Harding 8th grader Kayla Pierce also competed in the finals at the Science Center. Congratulations to all!
