The Superintendent of Schools is employed by the Board of Education to serve as the Chief Executive Officer for the Lakewood City School District. As such, the Superintendent is responsible for the operations of all schools and departments, with the exception of the Treasurer’s Office, within the school district. The Superintendent’s Office also includes the Public Relations Department of the school district.

Superintendent Dr. P. Joseph Madak began his second tenure with the Lakewood City Schools on Aug. 1, 2009. He served as Lakewood's superintendent from 1999-2004, during which time he was named State Superintendent of the Year and earned a Fulbright Scholar award. Dr. Madak has also been superintendent of the Kettering, Mansfield and Olmsted Falls school districts. Dr. Madak earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton and master's and doctorate degrees from Kent State University.
